The Community of Marobala, (Ga-Dikgale) handed over their memorandum of demands to the Mankweng Magistrate’s court in justice for Mmakwena, standing against Gender Based Violence (GBV) on Friday morning, the 20 November 2020.
It is alleged that Mmakwena Mokwalakwala, (22) was assaulted by her boyfriend Sello Mogale, (32) which left her crippled and unable to take herself to the toilet after spending two months in Mankweng Hospital (ICU). Meanwhile, the accused Sello was arrested on the 11th of October and later released on bail on the 16th of October 2020.
The community demands the alleged accused to remain in jail for the duration of the case investigations and to be removed from the community as his actions were intentional and shows no remorse as he continuously boast about it, tempering with the investigations by threatening some of the witnesses.
Secretary of Community Police Forum (CPF) and Coordinator of Youth, Jacob Thoka while speaking to Heita FM reporters said “The justice is failing us because our child cannot write exams whereas the accused is freely roaming the streets threatening us, this shows that Magistrate does not take us seriously”. He further says that the perpetrator also assaulted one of witnesses who is the friend of the victim, and the hurtful thing is that he was arrested but released on bail after some few days.
The community says will return to Mankweng Magistrate’s Court to hear the response from the Magistrate on Monday, 23 November 2020.
