A 29-year-old man has been arrested for a murder case of a 20-year-old woman, Chantelle Ester Ash and her 9-month old baby. The murder took place at lodge along the R518 between Mokopane and Marken road near Masodi village in the Waterberg region of Limpopo earlier this month.
The deceased were found strangled on the 14th January 2021 while the woman’s hands were tied behind her back. Both their bodies were found in a state of decomposition when discovered by police. It is alleged the man and woman, along with their nine-month old baby were dropped off by a grey unknown motor vehicle late in the evening.
Apparently the trio rented a room without providing their personal information and promising the receptionist that they will check out the next day. Furthermore, there was no presence of the male suspect who came to the lodge with the deceased. Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says police were subsequently notified of the bodies and a 72-hour activation plan was implemented.
The tracking team, detectives and other supporting structures were mobilized as a massive manhunt was launched which resulted in the arrest of the suspect at Brixton, in the Gauteng Province. Ngoepe says, “the motive behind this incident is still not clear at the stage but domestic violence may not be ruled out”.
The Provincial Commissioner applauded the police for the speedy arrest and the suspect is expected to appear in the Mokerong Magistrate’s Court on Friday 22 January 2021.
