Twenty-nine-year-old Lindani Myeni, the Former rugby player from KwaZulu-Natal who was shot dead by Honolulu police in Hawaii last week after a scuffle with police officers who were responding to a report of a house robbery, was set to return home in June to introduce his family to his baby daughter. Instead of joyful reunion, the heartbroken family is waiting for Myeni’s return home in a coffin as efforts are made to repatriate his body to South Africa.

In an alteration of plans Lindani Myeni’s body is expected back in South Africa on coming Friday. The officers responsible for the incident were called following an alleged burglary. Circumstances around Myeni’s death remain sketchy. That’s despite footage from body cameras worn by the police documenting the incident.

Myeni’s family confirmed the preparation to file a wrongful death lawsuit against authorities following his fateful shooting.
