The South African Police Service (SAPS) of the Provincial Commissioner Free State have arrested a 33-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearm that was found inside his carry bag and ammunition, after he was stopped at a road block at N3 near Harrismith, on 16 July 2021 at about 20:30pm.

Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane says the effectiveness of the road block for the past days is evident that as a Province they are having all hands on deck with support of the law enforcement agencies, Furthermore he continued by saying every occupant was requested to carry their luggage.

It is alleged that one of the passenger’s luggage was searched and police official found the black and silver 9mm Parabellum pistol with visible serial number, 15 live ammunition and magazine.

Therefore, the 33 year old man was arrested and detained in police holding cells. The suspect is expected to appear Harrismith Magistrate court on Monday the 19th of July 2021 facing charges in possession of unlicensed firearm.
