The National Lotteries Commission donates R2 million in proactive funding to Gauteng based Community Radio Station, Alex FM after the station was vandalised with millions worth equipment being looted during FreeZuma protest earlier July.
Alex FM Station Manager , Takalani Nemangowe says the loss of broadcasting equipment saw the station on mute and forced them to temporarily move the station in Sandton as an alternative venue.
This comes after the studios were destroyed and state of the arts equipment was stolen. Nemangowe mentioned that the damage caused might cost approximately R5 million but he and his team were thankful as he passed their warm gratitude on his social media platforms.
Furthermore, the NLC says the funding of R2 million is intended in purchasing equipment to fast track the station’s efforts towards full operation and providing information, education and entertaining programmes.
