The Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula announced an extension of all learner licenses, driving licenses and professional driving licenses that expired from 26 March 2020 to 31 December 2020, extending the expire dates to 31 August 2021. Furthermore, the public is encouraged to use this remaining few extended days to renew their license before the deadline day.
This after the alert the national lockdown that was implemented in the country last year, forced the closure for many industries including the licensing centres which resulted in a backlog of expired licenses.
All eligible drivers are discouraged from waiting until the exact expiry date before they can consider renewal of their vehicles or the driving license, but encouraged to apply for their driving license earlier to avoid having to apply for a temporary driving license at an additional cost.
Furthermore, the public is urged to present their original ID and a copy, driving license card or valid South African passport, four black and white ID photographs, proof of residence, and also license renewal fee.
