COMMISSION FOR GENDER EQUALITY CONDEMN INHUMANE TREATMENT OF SOME LOOTERS

1 min read

The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) condemns any form of looting that will have a negative impact to the food security of the country. However, this could scare foreign direct investment (FDI).   The rebel broke out in the country on the 13th of July 2021 and looted many shops and malls mainly in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

The CGE were outraged  by the tragic event of women being forced to swim in what appeared to be a water/alcohol spilt.  Men, women, the elderly, and children have been handled inhumanely for stealing at Mamelodi Mall. Chairperson of the Commission for Gender Equality, Ms. Tamara Mathebula says that as a human rights institution, the CGE cannot turn a blind eye to many recordings that have been circulating on social media platforms.

Furthermore, the Commission does not condone any sort of theft, such as dehumanizing and degrading people. She added that there are numerous ways to punish people without infringing on their rights.
