The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) is investigating incidents around the death of a 33-year-old woman who was shot during a confrontation between police and the community in Lamontville, KwaZulu Natal on Thursday the 29th of July 2021.

Police officials were in Madlala informal settlement raiding the area of looted and stolen property from the recent unrest.

It is alleged that the community members mobilised each other and blocked the exit points with stones before cutting the tires of the police vehicle, they then attacked the officers.

The police allegedly fired warning shots and a woman was later found dead behind one of the shacks metres away from the road where the police were stationed with gunshot wound in her body.
