SUNDOWNS BOOK A SPOT IN THE SEMIFINALS OF MTN8

Mamelodi Sundowns won 2-1 over Kaizer Chiefs on penalties following a 2-2 draw in a MTN8 quarterfinals On Sunday, the 15th of August 2021 at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

Masandawana’s spot in the competition goes alongside Swallows FC and Golden Arrows, While Kazier Chiefs have been knocked out of the tournament.

The match saw Sundowns dominating in the first minutes as Peter Shalulile scored a well-deserved 1-0 lead in the ninth minute.  Another goal came from Themba Zwane with assist of midfielder general Motho Mvala resulting in 2-0 twenty three  minutes before the half-hour mark.

Amasakhosi managed to score in the 38th minute when Njabulo Blom delivered a quality cross to Bernard Parker to make it 2-1. They continued to improve as debut Keagan Dolly made a splitting pass to Khama Billiat making an equalizer 2-2 in the 59th minute.

The score locked at 2-2 after regulation time, extra time followed. Khune made a great save to deny Lakay, while Mweene also made a save from Nurkovic. With no goals, it then came down to penalties for the game to be decided.

Masandawana went on to win 2-1 on penalties with goalkeeper Mweene denying Daniel Cardoso, Nurkovic, Erik Mathoho and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo. He was also the man of the match.
