A team of social workers has been dispatched to Rotterdam village outside Modjadjiskloof in Limpopo to provide psychosocial support to the family of a 35-year-old woman who allegedly fed poisoned food to her two children aged two and six on Monday, 17 August 2021.
Police says the woman and one of the children died and the other one has been hospitalized.
Social Development MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale says they are urging all parents who are facing challenges in their families and relationships not to resort to killing and harming their children, but approach their social workers for advice and assistance.
She furthermore says as the department they have systems in place to ensure that vulnerable children are protected and brought up in a conductive environment. A team of social workers which has been dispatched to the area will conduct assessments, as well as ensuring that psychosocial support is provided to the affected family members and other parties.
