The club remains without a win in the DStv Premiership after their draw (0-0) with newcomers Marumo Gallants on Tuesday, the 24th of August 2021 at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
This is the team’s third competitive match from the start of the campaign without a win. It follows their defeat to Swallows FC in the MTN8 quarterfinals and a (2-2) draw with Stellenbosch FC this past Saturday, on the 21st of August 2021.
Meanwhile newcomers Gallants, who took over from Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila, earned their first point in the league after losing to Baroka FC.
Buccaneers dominated mostly part of the first half, however Gallants offered more of a goal threat in the opening quarter with the energy of new striker Sede Junior Dion. Other attempts came from Thabo Mnyamane with couple of dangerous crosses that held a threat to Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori.
Pirates continued with their struggle to bring their attackers into game, with their only effort on target coming from Frank Mhango however it was easily saved by Gallants keeper Washington Arubi. In the second half, Pirates coaching team made changes as Gabadinho Mhango made way for Terrence Dzvukamanja while Gallants brought Joseph Molongoane and Katlego Otladisa off the bench. It was in the 64th when Ngema showed good control before sending a volley.
Pirates chances was on the 77th minute when Kabelo Dlamini set a pass to Deon Hotto with a one-on-one chance but the Nambian was denied by a save from Afori. The last whistle gave Pirates and Gallants a draw.
The teams will return with Orlando Pirates at home playing against Swallows FC on the 11th of September 2021. Marumo Gallants away with Cape Town City on the 15th of September 2021.
