ActionSA President, Herman Mashaba, will lead commemorations into the one-year anniversary of the passing of a 16-year-old Nathaniël Julies, on Thursday, 26 August 2021 at Corner Turf Avenue & Nikkel Crescent, Eldorado Park at around 10:00am, where the family will unveil a memorial in honour of their son who was shot and killed by police officers for allegedly failing to respond to their questions.
ActionSA spokesperson Lerato Ngobeni says the senseless killing of Nathaniël sent shockwaves throughout his community and the country. The criminal trial has yet to begin, almost a year since his killing is a travesty and it betrays their best intentioned efforts at ensuring that justice is not just carried out, but seen to be carried out fast.
She furthermore says ActionSA has stepped in and is providing legal support to the family of Nathaniel Julies by briefing attorneys on a Watching Brief to ensure that the matter is prosecuted properly so that a just outcome may be arrived at.
Mashaba will be joined by the entire ActionSA leadership, including National Chairman, Michael Beaumont, the organisation’s Provincial Chairpersons, John Moodey (Gauteng), Vytjie Mentor (Western Cape), and Dr Makhosi Khoza (Kwazulu Natal), and also the Mayoral Candidates for Tshwane Ekurhuleni, Abel Tau, Tlhogi Moseki, respectively.
