Polokwane Executive Mayor Cllr Mosema Mpe met with the public transportation sector and reiterated his gratitude to the taxi industry in the city of Polokwane for ensuring that the City does not experience looting and riots.
Cllr Mpe says they are greatful with the move implementated by public transportation for defending an economic and social infrastructure making sure that the City does not experience looting.
“We need partnership with you to stipulate growth in our municipality and create opportunities for the people in particular the youth.” Uttered Cllr Mpe.
Furthermore he says the taxi industry has raised operational challenges such as contract, management and system issues in terms of bus rapid transit therefore their work and efforts are recognised.
The Executive Mayor has noted the challenges and urged the meeting to develop a clear action plan in an effort to resolve the challenges.
“Necessary decision must be taken to unlock the obstacles so that the company representating taxi associations within Polokwane can start operating without challenges to ensure that our communities move to a much more reliable transport system.” Cllr Mpe explained.
