Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Gauteng, Major General Ebrahim Kadwa applauded the outstanding response on the extortion of two fake Hawks officials by the Serious Corruption Investigation team.
It is alleged that the suspects contacted the complainant and demanded an amount of R100 000 to stop a corruption investigation against him as they arranged a meeting at Silverton in Pretoria to exchange docket contents about the corruption complaint.
Upon arrival, one of the suspects produced the fraudulent documents to the complainant and demanded the cash as the Pretoria based Serious Corruption Investigation team apprehended the suspect upon the collection. The second suspect who tried to flee on a Blue Mazda 3 collided with another vehicle which resulted in his arrest.
The suspects aged 38 and 34 are expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on the 26th of October 2021 facing charges of attempted murder, fraud, extortion, forgery, impersonating police official, uttering, and reckless and negligence driving.
