The Limpopo Departments of Social Development and Education have dispatched teams of social workers for them to start with the provision of psychosocial support to the family of a grade 11 Magoletša High School learner who was stabbed to death after a fight broke out among learners in Medingen village in Kgapane.
MEC for Social Development Nkakareng Rakgoale says this incident is exposing the behavior by some of the young people in different communities. This violent behavior by children must immediately come to an end. They are urging parents to keep a close eye on their children so that they can notice behavioral change and report to social workers for an immediate intervention.
MEC of Education Polly Boshielo says it is devastating and saddening that they had to loose a young life in this manner. It is something that needs everyone to collaborate on, to enforce laws prohibiting learners to carry dangerous weapons in schools and in communities. They accordingly send their condolences to the bereaved family and the entire school.
The social workers will also extend the same service to the school for learners to cope well, as they are currently sitting for their final year exams.
MEC for Social Development Nkakareng Rakgoale has condemned the incident, saying that it’s an indication that social ills such as substance abuse and bullying are still persistent in some parts of the province.
