The former South African Police Service cashier, Kgomotso Yvonne Mashala aged 34 was convicted on two counts of theft by the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday, 09 November 2021.
Apparently, Mashala was employed as a cashier responsible for receiving and depositing state money into the state account between 19 January 2018 and 7 February 2018.
Furthermore, when an audit was conducted, the report showed that an amount of more than R264 000 was missing and unaccounted for, which was during the period Mashala was still a cashier.
The matter was referred to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation for further probe. After a thorough investigation by the HAWKS, the National Prosecuting Authority issued the summons against Mashala to appear in court and she duly served.
Mashala was out on bail until she was convicted and now she is awaiting sentencing at the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on the 19th January 2022.
