According to JMPD statement: The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) confirms a significant and concerning number of arrests for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol during an intensified week of operations across the City of Johannesburg.
Between Monday, 10th November 2025, and Sunday, 16th November 2025, JMPD officers apprehended a total of 137 motorists for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.
These arrests were the result of proactive patrols and high-visibility roadblocks conducted across all regions of the city, targeting areas with a high incidence of alcohol-related crashes.
All arrested suspects have been detained and will be processed through the judicial system to face serious charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The JMPD reminds the public that a conviction for DUI can result in hefty fines, imprisonment, suspension or revocation of a driving license.
We urgently appeal to all residents and visitors of Johannesburg to prioritise road safety #arrive alive.
Designate a sober driver before heading out, make use of e-hailing services, taxis, or public transport if you plan to consume any amount of alcohol.
Do not risk your life(safe other people’s lives on the road)and the lives of others by getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
The Department remains resolute in its mission to ensure a safer road network for all and will continue to intensify these operations throughout November and the upcoming festive period.
