Bafana Bafana coach says he might not select Sundowns players during June friendly games

Mamelodi Sundowns players will not be available for call up in the national team as their team will be busy with Club World Cup.

Even though all of them will not be part of the squad for the Club World Cup, Bafana coach highlighted that he might not select them.

After announcing his squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, Hugo Broos revealed that June friendly games will used to test other players and help them gain experience.

The friendly fixtures, organized by Broos in collaboration with SAFA, are set to take place against Tanzania and Namibia, with venue details to be shared as the dates approach.

Among those being considered is Mbekeli Mbokazi, a young defender from Orlando Pirates.

Broos said “We have discussed Orlando Pirates’ centre-back, Mbekeli Mbokazi, along with several other players on our list.

“Thabo Moloisane is under consideration as well. Our aim is to provide these players with opportunities, but we cannot do that at this moment. Hence, I plan to utilize the June friendlies to bring them in and give them crucial experience.”

Former AFCON winner coach Hugo Broos confirmed that he will give Sundowns players time to rest.

He said “I will specifically exclude Mamelodi Sundowns players in June and have already communicated to the club that they can retain their players to prepare adequately for the Club World Cup.

“In their place, we will bring in younger talents. Our matches against Tanzania and potentially Namibia will allow me to evaluate these youngsters and gauge their performance.”

The group winners will secure automatic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in Canada, Mexico, and the USA, while the four best-placed runners-up will have an additional chance through the play-offs.
