Democratic Alliance (DA) Federal Council Chairperson issued a warning to the South African government, urging it to avoid repeating the injustices of the apartheid era when addressing land reform

South Africa is currently addressing the land expropriation and the matter was being intervened by USA president.

Since the issue being announced by the president of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa, USA have decided to stopped providing financial and medical care into South Africa.

Now the former DA leader Helen Zille has also touched the matter and asked the ruling party to make things right.

Zille went on to highlight how Apartheid era made mistakes when they take land without compensation.

She said “The apartheid government, in a parliamentary democracy for a small minority, had extensive powers, that’s why we saw the Group Areas Act.

“People were removed without compensation, and the current government must learn from that history.”

After taking the land by force the Apartheid government went on to introduced Group Areas Act in 1950.

It segregated communities along racial lines and forced thousands of black South Africans, Indians, and coloureds to vacate their homes, often in well-developed urban areas, to relocate to designated zones.

Many lost their land and livelihoods without any compensation, creating generational social and economic scars.

Drawing parallels between past and present, Zille stressed the importance of pursuing land reform in a manner that upholds constitutional principles and respects individual rights.

She said “We cannot repeat the same mistakes made by the apartheid government under the guise of progress.”

Her comments have sparked discussions across political and public platforms, with some supporting her call for a balanced approach to land reform and others accusing her of downplaying the urgency of addressing land inequality.
