For the second time within six months R71 has experienced the closer for some different reasons.
The first time when road was shutted down it was due to the fall (disaster) of the road between Magobaskloof and Boyne(Moria).
With the bad history the road carries, even now some of those history are keeps on reapting as accidents occurs.
Earlier on today Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has announced the shut down of R71 for shot period.
This time the reason for closing the road has been revealed (as the province prepare for the Marathon).
The Department has issued a warning to the motorist to use R528 between 05:00 and 10:00 as time set for the athletes.
Here is the statement released by Department:
The Department of Transport and Community Safety wishes to inform all road users that the R71 will be temporarily closed from 05h00 to 10h00 on 22 November 2025 to accommodate a Marathon Escort that has been granted a permit.
Traffic officers will be deployed [on the side road] at key points to redirect traffic to approved alternative routes.
We appreciate the cooperation of motorists and advise planning ahead, allowing additional travel time, and adhering to signage and officer instructions. Your safety and the smooth flow of traffic are our top priorities.
