According SAPS statement: A 35-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday, 06 November 2025, by members of the Johannesburg-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation team for the alleged murder of a police official.
On Sunday, 02 November 2025, the police received information about a murder incident in Easttown, Northcliff, Johannesburg. Upon arrival, the suspect reported that he saw an unknown person in his yard at his residence.
He alleged that when he went out to check who the person was, the victim pointed a firearm at him, and he then shot and killed the victim.
The victim was later identified as Constable Bruwan Phavelle Prins, stationed at Langlaagte SAPS.
A case docket was registered and handed over to the #Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team based in Johannesburg for further investigation. It was discovered that the suspect and the deceased knew each other.
Further investigation revealed that there was no pointing of a firearm when the deceased was shot, and the firearm was still in the deceased’s belt.
The shooting incident occurred during the day.The suspect is expected to appear before the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 10 November 2025.
