Yesterday Mamelodi Sundowns made a shocking statement as they announced new head coach in the middle of the season.
Chairman of the club Hlophi Motsepe together with Sporting Director during media brief, announced that they are no longer working with Manqoba Mngqithi.
On Mngqithi’s vaccancy they informed public that they have recruited former ES Tunisia Miguel Cardoso as their new manager.
Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed his reasons for retaining Steve Komphela and Kennedy Mweene as part of his coaching staff.
According to Cardoso, their inclusion was a well-thought-out decision made collaboratively with the club, and not imposed by management, as some may have speculated.
Cardoso explained that Komphela and Mweene bring invaluable experience and local knowledge, both of which are crucial for his vision at Sundowns.
He said “I feel very happy with the staff I have. It was a common decision to keep Steve Komphela and Kennedy with us.
“I need to absorb their knowledge as quickly as possible, not only for their expertise but also for the quality they bring to their work.”
Cardoso went on to inform the public that another reason why they are kept is because of their understanding of local football dynamics.
He said “The fact that they are locals and can provide insights we need made them vital members of the team.”
Cardoso went on to emphasize that the decision to keep those two was made by himself not the clubs management.
He said “This was not imposed; otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to stand here and say this proudly.”
Apart of Komphela and Kennedy, Cardoso brought in his own technical team that consists of Fabio Fernandes, João Araújo and Pedro Azevedo.
Cardoso went on to share that he will work hand to hand with the rest of staff and hopes to have healthy relationship with them.
He said “I will work closely with all departments and the people who were already here, from the medical staff to the kit men. I believe in open relationships and collaboration.
“I am demanding, but I also believe in building good relationships. Together, we will develop and achieve great things.”
The new head coach expressed his desire to blend his strategies with the club’s already successful systems.
He said “I am one more, not the boss or anything like that. I lead by example and inspire people to believe in me because I believe in them.”
