Mamelodi Sundowns new signing revealed why joined the club

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lucas Costa Ribeiro revealed why he decided to persuade his football career in South Africa.

Ribeiro was signed by Bafana ba Style from the books of SK Beveren FC from Belgian and went on to establish himself as fan favorite in South Africa.

The 26-year-old described how the lucrative transfer happened in the off-season before the 2023–2024 season.

He said “It’s undeniable that Sundowns is a large and excellent club that most football players would like to play for. when I was offered a contract, it was more about the vision the club has.”

He went on to highlight that he wishes to win all trophies with his side and win each and every game.

Ribeiro said “The desire to win every cup and trophy. Additionally, it gave me the chance to experience a setting where I had never been before, one where you have to battle to win every game and championship.

“It’s the club’s desire, and thank God I won some trophies. It was my first, and winning it for the club shows that they are adhering to their goal, which is something I want to keep helping them achieve.”

He also emphasized that he didn’t know much about the club and he conducted his own research to get more information about the club and he was impressed with what he saw.

Ribeiro said “It’s fair to say that I didn’t know much about South African football or South Africa.

“My knowledge of South Africa and the club’s history was limited, but I started having time to research more to understand more even before signing the contract to join Sundowns.

“This has been one of my best decisions because everything has gone smoothly for me since I arrived, and I love the club and all of its members, including my teammates and everyone else!.

“Playing for a fantastic team like Sundowns, where winning is essential, has really helped me. I am doing well in this second season, which is fortunate for me because I had an amazing first season.”

Ribeiro admitted that he did hit the ground running immediately after joining the club and it took him some time to adjust.

He said “All right, things improve with time as I adjust, and at the end of this season, I’ll be competing in the FIFA Club World Cup.

“Being a part of the club provides another viewpoint that helps the chapter.”

According to his starts it seems like Ribeiro has been with Sundowns as he managed to record 13 assists and 23 goals out of 49 matches.

Ribeiro will be hoping to help Mamelodi Sundowns when they face Magesi FC over the weekend(23rd November) for Carling Black Lable Cup.
