Minister of Sports Art and Culture explain why he didn’t fulfill his promise

Minister of Sports Art and Culture Gayton McKenzie previously made a promise to donate his all salary to foundation in Joslin Smith’s name.

In a Facebook post, Gayton McKenzie revealed the beneficiaries of his ministerial salary, which he pledged to “donate 100%” to.

In June, Gayton McKenzie revealed that he would donate “100%” of his salary to the Joslin Smith Foundation, which he would establish to raise awareness of missing children.

The political leader has taken an active role in the search for the Saldanha Bay girl who disappeared from her home in Diazville on 19 February.

But according to Minister of Social Development Sisi Tolashe revealed that there is no such foundation.

He said “The Joslin Smith Foundation is not registered as a non-profit organisation (NPO) in terms of sections 13 NPO Act and has not submitted any application for registration in terms of the Act administered by the Department of Social Development.

The Minister of Sports Art and Culture Gayton McKenzie posted on his Facebook page to clarify why he didn’t fulfill his promise.

He wrote “The Joslin Smith Foundation does not yet exist, because we want to make sure we get it right and don’t just do it to please the members of other political parties who think this matter has anything to do with them.

“It is a private, personal matter relating to my own funds and what I choose to do with my own money.

“To rush into the creation of any Foundation would be a mistake, and the obvious fact that it has not yet been registered does not mean that I have gone back on my undertaking to not benefit from my ministerial salary.
