Out of 78 deceased bodies from Stilfontein Mine, only 12 have been identified by their family

Yesterday SABC have confirmed that community and Government workers have managed to rescue the dead bodies at Stilfontein Mine.

According to Treenews: A harrowing situation continues to unfold in Stilfontein, North West, where the remains of illegal miners who perished in abandoned mines have been brought to the surface.

according to the statistics this month more than 70 dead bodies of illegal miners (Zama-Zamas) have been removed from the mine.

Source stated: About twelve (12) deceased bodies have been identified by their families and SABC have urged other relatives to comes forward to identify the remaining bodies.

Spokesperson of North West Municipality revealed that they are giving the families of remaining decreased 30 days to come forward and identify the bodies or else they will bury them at Municipality graveyard.

Treenews stated: The retrieval operation has sparked renewed calls for stronger enforcement of mining regulations and greater investment in the rehabilitation of abandoned mines, which are often exploited by illegal miners.

The situation has drawn attention to the broader issue of unemployment and poverty in rural areas, which drive many individuals to take such dangerous risks in pursuit of survival.
