Yesterday Real Madrid managed to fought nail and tail to secure all three points against Italian side.
Madrid’s 3-2 victory over Atalanta FCaway from home helped them to move from 24th spot on the table of Champions League.
Carlo Ancelotti revealed that his team was made to suffer by Atalanta in Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League clash.
The goals for visiting side were scored by Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior as they brought hope on their fans.
As the game was getting more frustrating and unbearable on the visiting side, they managed to fought hard and collect maximum points.
After the match Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti highlighted that they knew that at some point they will suffer.
He said “It was a complete performance, we suffered, but also created numerous chances, had a lot of movement upfront with Bellingham, Vinicius and initially Mbappé.
“We knew that we would have to suffer, we are still missing a lot of players and that means we cannot be at our best, but we needed a performance like this in a very difficult arena against an Atalanta side that plays with a lot of intensity.
“We didn’t want to keep a low block, as our centre-backs weren’t very tall and we could suffer with their crosses.
“So we had to try everything to keep them away from our final third, we managed it at some times more than others. It was necessary because Atalanta play with so much intensity and we had to match them on that.”
It feels like their victory didn’t help at all as the defending Champions didn’t climb high on the log table as they are now occupying 18th spot.
Ancelotti went on to share how he encouraged players to stay focused as they are currently enduring injuries within squad.
He said “I said before the game too, we have to stay alive until Christmas because the squad is limited, we are missing a lot of players.
“We got Vini back today, Camavinga should return next week, then Alaba in January. Once we have a more complete squad, we can challenge better.”
Ancelotti together with his troops still have another tough fixture awaiting them as they are visiting Rayo Valloceno on 14th December 2024(La Liga, kickoff set at 22:00).
