After qualifying for AFCON in Morocco, Hugo Broos together with his troops received a shocking news from South African Football Association (SAFA) regarding payment.
Hugo Broos together with his troops still have a tough and tricky task ahead of themselves as they are going to fight for a place for 2026 FIFA World Cup.
SAFA President Danny Jordaan confirmed the financial crisis during a media briefing, citing dwindling sponsorships and rising operational costs as primary contributors.
He said “The reality is that we are operating under severe financial constraints. While we remain committed to supporting our players, the current situation is unsustainable.”
According to the rumors several players have not received payments for match fees and bonuses, with some team members voicing their frustration over the delays.
This issue might results into less effort from players and some players refusing to honor the call-ups.
A source within the team disclosed that players are growing increasingly dissatisfied, with some questioning the association’s management and priorities. “We play for the pride of the nation, but we also deserve respect and fair treatment.”
This issue raised some questions from stakeholders and some fans and some have questioned SAFA’s governance and its inability to secure sustainable funding.
Even Sports Analyst Benedict Mathabela was not impressed by how the association is handling their business.
He said “This situation reflects poor financial planning and management. SAFA has failed to capitalize on the popularity of football in the country to attract and retain sponsors.”
This matter attracted some attention of other political parties in South Africa as EFF released a statement regarding the crisis.
They wrote “This crisis is not just about unpaid players; it’s a reflection of deeper systemic issues within SAFA.”
It is not the first time when SAFA fails to pay national players thier money and bonuses as they were involved in a scandal where they failed to pay Banyana Banyana their salaries after winning WAFCON.
