POLOKWANE- The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has ordered the investigating teams across all districts to mobilise all resources at their disposal to track down and apprehend suspects involved in the gruesome killings of victims since the eve of the 2025 New Year to date. The province has experienced about 11 murders from the 31st December 2024 to date.
These murder cases were reported in the main Capricorn district 03, Mopani 03, Waterberg 03 and Vhembe 02.
Majority of these murders are believed to be emanating from domestic related disputes. Out of these murders, seven suspects have been apprehended by the police.
Some notable murder incidents include the killing of a wife by her husband after hacking her to death at Bolobedu, Mopani district on the 01 January 2025.
In another related incident, a girlfriend also killed her boyfriend at Phagameng in Modimolle, Waterberg District after the boyfriend found the girlfriend interacting with a stranger, whereby the boyfriend assaulted her and in return, the girlfriend retaliated by stabbing him to death.
Moreover, a 48 year-old male victim was allegedly killed by a 45 year-old male suspect believed to be his biological brother in Shongoane 1, Phomolong section under Villa Nora precinct on Wednesday, 01 January 2025 at about 20:00.
The two brothers were fighting when a 45 year-old suspect stabbed the victim his brother a sharp object.
The suspect has since been apprehended and currently in police custody. A 26 year-old female victim was murdered by her boyfriend on Thursday 02 January 2025 at about 02:30 in Marobala, Ga-Dikgale village under Sebayeng policing area, Capricorn district.
The deceased was fatally stabbed with a sharp object by a 31 year-old boyfriend at his residence and fled the scene following the incident.
Limpopo’s Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe pleaded with resident and community to share information if they saw the preparatory.
She said “We have noted the murders we encountered since the 31st of December 2024, and observed that majority of these cases are a result of domestic violence.
“We call upon communities to seek professional assistance from social workers, pastors and traditional authorities in case they have disputes in their relationships.
“Multi-disciplinary teams have been assigned and maximum resources mobilised to ensure that investigations are expedited to ultimately bring the remaining suspects to book in order to face the full might of law.”
Meanwhile, the Provincial Commissioner has also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims.
