SAPS shoot 20 year old boy after shootout with police yesterday

South Africa keeps on experiencing the high number of crime across different provinces as we approach December festivals.

Earlier on today the South African Police Service have confirmed the injury of a 20-year-old suspect[after shootout].

According to SAPS statement: The suspect was wanted for the murder of a man who was shot and killed on the bridge on Siyanda Road at Wiggins on 12 October 2025.

Police conducted an intelligence-driven operation which led them to a residence on Dark Road at Wiggins in Cato Manor where the wanted suspected murderer was believed to be hiding.

When police officers were about to enter the premises, the suspect opened fire towards the men of law and police returned fire, sparking a shootout. During the shootout, the suspect was shot and fatally wounded.

The suspect(20 year old boy) was found in possession of a firearm and four rounds of ammunition.

Apart from the Wiggins murder, the suspect was also wanted for a string of house and business robbery cases which he allegedly committed in the area of Cato Manor.

He was previously arrested for cases of possession of an unlicenced firearm in 2024 and for attempted murder in 2023.

The deceased suspect was previously convicted of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. No police officer was injured during the shootout.
