Two Defensor Security have received the verdict regarding fraud

According to SAPS statement: Kimberley Division of the High Court found two Defensor Security Services Company Directors and an entity (Defensor Security Services) guilty as charged, on allegations of fraud and contravention of Public Finance Management Act 1 of 1999 and contravention of the Private Security Industry Regulation Act (PSIRA) 56 of 2001.

The guilty verdict[judge has taken decision regarding the papertrator] was delivered by the honourable court on Monday, 11 August 2025.

The group which initially handed themselves over in October 2021, included former HOD of the Department of Health, Mr Jonkers, who was acquitted on all charges.

The two company Directors, Mr Van Rooyen and Mr Peterson were found guilty on both charges of fraud and contravention of PSIRA.

Allegations were that the former HOD, who is currently the Deputy Director General in another provincial department, awarded a tender irregularly to Defensor Electronic Security Systems company for rendering of security services to the department.

The directors of the company submitted fraudulent documents in order to gain an unfair advantage over others to be awarded the tender as the highest bidder.

They were awarded the tender between August and October 2017, worth a total value surpassing R224 million, however it later escalated to an amount exceeding R384 million.

The case was reported to the #Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in December 2017, where an enquiry was registered.

The enquiry was turned into a case docket in January 2020, culminating to the arrest and subsequent court appearances.

Kimberley Division of the High Court sentenced the accused as follows, Defensor Security Services was fined R1.5 Million on charges of fraud, R10 000 on contravention of PSIRA, which is suspended for (5) years.

Accused no two, Mr Gert Van Rooyen, sentenced to (6) years of which (3) years is suspended on charges of fraud. Contravention of PSIRA, R10 000 which wholly suspended for a period of five years.

Accused no three, Mr Glaudius Peterson, also, sentenced to (6) years of which (3) years is suspended on charges of fraud. Contravention of PSIRA, R10 000 which wholly suspended for a period of five years.
