In an effort to enhance local infrastructure and improving quality of life for residents, the Mayor of Lephalale Local Municipality, Cllr Aaron Mokgetle, officially introduced and announced the commencement of two major water and sanitation infrastructure projects during a community engagement meeting at the Marapong Library.
Project 1: Replacement of Asbestos Cement (AC) Water Pipes in Marapong (Zone 2)
The first project involves the replacement of outdated and hazardous asbestos cement (AC) water pipes with modern and safer HDPE/uPVC pipelines in Marapong (Zone 2).
This initiative is a critical public health and service delivery intervention designed to ensure a reliable and safe water supply for the community.
Project 2: Bulk Water and Sewer System Upgrade for Community Residential Units (CRU) Project
The second project focuses on upgrading the bulk water and sewer system in support of the Community Residential Units (CRU) project that is currently underway.
This includes the construction of a bulk water pipeline, a 3ML reservoir, electrification of the reservoir site, and the construction of a sewer outfall line linking the CRU to the nearest pump station.
Both projects are scheduled for completion within a period of 8 months and will create local employment opportunities.
These initiatives not only aim to modernize water and sanitation infrastructure but also contribute to local economic empowerment through job creation and skills development.
The Mayor was joined by EXCO Members, Cllr Mosonya Semenya and Cllr Ratah Modiba along with Cllr Betty Kgageng, Cllr Joel Madibana, Cllr Esrom Setho, Cllr Mohau Mojakhula, Cllr Jan Moselane, Cllr Jan Selolo and Cllr Daniel Mongalo.
