According to department: KwaNobuhle community members in Kariega have expressed their gratitude to Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha and SAPS for their concerted efforts to combat crime in the township.
They were speaking during the Policing Accountability engagement session convened by the Department of Community Safety at Sizakele Kozi Community Hall earlier today.
During the engagement, community members confirmed that crime prevention strategies implemented in the area are beginning to yield positive results.
According to the SAPS presentation, serious crimes such as murder have dropped drastically in the past six months.
Councillors, traditional leaders, SAPS, religious fraternities, and government officials also attended the successful engagement.
All stakeholders attributed the decline in crime to strong collaboration between police and community members and support provided by the Department of Community Safety to CPFs and patrollers in the township.
However, crimes such as burglary and robbery are still prevalent in the township(most of local urban areas).
Delivering the keynote address at the ceremony, MEC Nqatha said there is still more work to be done, urging all sectors of society to join the fight against crime in the area.
Subsequently, the MEC handed over 50 two-way radios and 50 reflector jackets to the CPF and patrollers.
