Dr Malixole Mahlathi (67), Deputy Director-General: Tertiary Health and Hospital Services and subsequently Acting Head/Deputy Director-General: Corporate Services, NDoH; Mr Phineas Phaswa Mamogale (46), Chief Financial Officer, NDoH; and Dr Sabelo Siyabonga Sandile Buthelezi (55), Director-General, NDoH, were served with warrants of arrest by members of the #Hawks’ National Serious Corruption Investigation this morning, 02 March 2026, for alleged fraud and theft in pursuance of common cause.
The three briefly appeared in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court following an in-depth investigation since April 2024, where it is alleged that in 2023 over R1 million was unduly awarded to a service provider in contravention of the Public Finance Management Act.
The company of one of the suspects is also charged as the fifth juristic person, as the monies were paid to the company.
After their trail the trio, Dr Mahlathi, Mr Mamogale, and Dr Buthelezi, were granted R10 000 bail each.
Their case was postponed to 03 June 2026. The fourth suspect, the service provider, and her company are yet to be arrested.
