Creating safe green spaces through the power of partnershipsJohannesburg City Parks and Zoo (JCPZ), in partnership with the Glenhazel Residents Association and CAP Green,
an initiative of CAP, proudly marks the successful adoption and upgrade of Galliot Park, a powerful example of what can be achieved when government, communities, and the private sector work together.
This partnership is rooted in a shared commitment to adopt, maintain, and protect Galliot Park as a safe, secure, and welcoming green public open space.
Through collective effort and community ownership, the park has been transformed into a space that supports healthy lifestyles, outdoor recreation, and family wellbeing.
Key upgrades include improved perimeter fencing with controlled access points, the installation of solar powered lighting in key areas of the park, and enhanced safety measures that support regular community use.
Speaking on the partnership, Mr. Thanduxolo Mendrew, the Managing Director of Johannesburg City Parks and Zoo suggested the collision between people, businesses and government.
Mendrew said “Galliot Park demonstrates the power of community ownership and partnership.
“When residents, business, and government work together, public spaces are transformed into places of pride, safety, and opportunity.
“These collaborations allow us to protect green spaces, support healthy childhood development, and strengthen the social fabric of our city.
“Urban decay and public safety are closely linked. Clean, well-maintained public spaces reduce opportunistic crime and help restore community confidence.
Porter concluded by stating “By reimagining public spaces in ways that foster pride, connection, and a sense of belonging, we aim to inspire people to love where they live.”
Safe and well maintained parks play a critical role in child development, encouraging physical activity, motor skill development, and healthy minds, while providing families with spaces to connect and communities with places to gather.
JCPZ extends its sincere appreciation to the Glenhazel Residents Association and Community Protection Solutions NPC (CAP Security) for their support and commitment.
Galliot Park now stands as a symbol of shared responsibility, a reminder that when communities take ownership of their spaces, cities thrive.
Happy communities create happy consumers and responsible citizens, and this partnership serves as an open invitation to other like minded organisations that care deeply for the communities that form their consumer base to step forward, collaborate, and invest in initiatives that create safer, more vibrant urban environments for all.
