Two Lesotho nationals, Thato Masebethi (22) and Khauhelo Mohapi (21), appeared before the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, on charges of possession of suspected stolen property after they were allegedly found in possession of livestock.
The case was postponed to 23 June 2026 for further investigation, and both accused were remanded in custody.
It is alleged that on Sunday, 17 May 2026, at approximately 02:00, police received information about two men seen with pigs near Shaft Number 3 in the Stilfontein area.
The information was operationalised, and police members proceeded to the identified location.
Upon arrival, the suspects were allegedly found in possession of 19 pigs and were immediately arrested when they could not account for them.
Further investigation subsequently linked the suspects to a stock theft case reported earlier in Stilfontein. The livestock was positively identified by the rightful owner.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, Major General (Dr) Ryno Naidoo, commended the members for their swift response and continued commitment in combating stock theft and related crimes.
