Limpopo’s Office of Premier will be present to monitor the process under Mogalakwena Local Municipality

The Executive Committee (EXCO) of the Mogalakwena Local Municipality frequently conducts community outreach programs and oversight visits to the Mahwelereng Clinic in Mahwelereng Township, near Mokopane.

These engagements involve the Mayor, EXCO members, ward councillors, and the Limpopo Department of Health.

Mogalakwena has historically suffered from extensive backlog pressures, particularly involving failing water pipelines, poor road networks, and insufficient housing.

Interventions like the Premier’s Service Delivery Week allow the provincial leadership to assess delayed infrastructure projects first-hand and unblock service delivery bottlenecks directly.

The municipality has been heavily plagued by allegations of irregular expenditure, corrupt tender allocations, and questionable multi-million rand vehicle fleet contracts.

The Premier’s oversight is required to support financial management, evaluate municipal governance performance, and investigate whistleblower complaints regarding missing municipal funds.

Under the national District Development Model, the Premier ensures that provincial departments do not work in isolation.

Bringing together Members of the Executive Council (MECs), district mayors, and local councillors bridges the gap between different tiers of government for unified planning and budgeting.

Limpopo’s Premier’s intended to insure that all the people under Mogalakwena are taken care off.

Earlier on today Department of Premier has revealed that Dr Phophi Ramathuba will be present at Mogalakwena Local Municipality.

Here is the statement released by Department of Premier:

Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba together with EXCO members and Mogalakwena Local Municipality at Mahwelereng Clinic to assess state of service delivery.

NB: Mogalakwena is one of Limpopo’s primary economic drivers due to its massive platinum mining, industrial, and agricultural sectors.

The Premier must personally engage with corporate heavyweights like Anglo American Platinum to foster public-private partnerships, ensure local jobs are created, and guarantee corporate social investment flows back into municipal infrastructure.

The expansion of local mining hubs has triggered a rapid influx of residents into Mokopane and surrounding townships like Mahwelereng.

The Premier’s office must guide the municipality on how to rapidly scale up social amenities, clinics, and school infrastructure to keep pace with this population boom.

Note: With critical events hosted in areas like Mapela Village, the Premier works directly with the Limpopo House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders.

This collaboration is vital for smoothly managing rural development, land administration, and social cohesion within local communities.
