Municipality of Ekurhuleni hands over 148 homes under Clayville Mega Project

The Gauteng Provincial Government handed over 148 homes to qualifying beneficiaries at the Clayville Mega Project in Ekurhuleni.

To date, thousands of mixed-housing units (including RDP/BNG houses) have been completed and allocated in the area, with thousands more planned for the ongoing mega-city development.

The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements hands over houses right now as part of an intensified rollout to fulfill constitutional mandates, clear historic construction backlogs, and prevent illegal building invasions.

Instead of waiting for entire mega-cities to be fully finished, the department processes rolling handovers as soon as specific blocks of units become certified and safe for occupation.

Housing allocations for the Clayville Project are managed using a strict, structured set of provincial and national government protocols:

The National Housing Needs Register (NHNR): Beneficiaries are historically selected from the official municipal housing waiting list. Many recent recipients in Clayville had been on this waiting list since the late 1990s (1996–1999).

Informal Settlement Relocation: A portion of the houses are specifically targeted to clear out nearby informal settlements (such as Madelakufa and Freedom Square) to provide dignified housing to those living in high-risk, unserviced environments.

NB: To confirm your status or ensure your household details are updated on the official Housing Demand Database, you can visit the Provincial or your local municipal housing office.
