The swift response by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) stationed at Campbell Police Station successfully prevented an attempted #StockTheft incident in Campbell on Thursday, 26 March 2026, at approximately 21:00.
Police received information regarding a planned theft involving 52 sheep. Members immediately operationalised the information and proceeded to a farm in the Campbell area, where the crime was reportedly underway.
Upon arrival at the scene, members discovered the sheep herded into a corner of the camp, ready for collection.
The animals’ legs had already been tied with string, and a section of the fence had been cut, indicating that the suspects intended to remove the livestock imminently.
The owner of the sheep was informed, and all recovered animals were safely returned. The owner, together with neighbouring farmers, was advised to strengthen security measures, as the area has been identified as a hotspot for stock theft incidents.
Notably, two cases of stock theft were reported in the vicinity during December 2025 and January 2026.
No arrests have been made at this stage. However, high-density patrols have since been initiated in the area following the incident.
The District Commissioner of Pixley ka Seme District, Major General Nomana Mtukushe, commended the members for their prompt and decisive action.
