Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo, joined Limpopo Premier, Dr. Phophi Ramathuba, and some members of her Executive Council on Thursday, 25 September 2025, for an oversight visit to the Polokwane Academic Hospital, currently under construction.
The inspection formed part of government’s ongoing efforts to monitor progress at the multi-billion-rand facility, which is expected to transform access to specialised healthcare services in Limpopo once completed.
Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, alongside her team, assessed construction work and engaged stakeholders on the pace and quality of delivery.
Executive Mayor Cllr. Mamedupi Teffo welcomed the provincial government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, emphasising that the project would be a lifeline for residents across Capricorn District and beyond.
Teffo said “This visit has given me an opportunity to compare what is reported in our IGR structures with what is happening on site. It will also help us to intervene in time should any challenges arise.”
Also present were MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Ernest Rachoene, MEC for Health, Dieketseng Mashego, as well as the representative of the Polokwane Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr. Joosuf Pemma.
To date, more than R800 million has been invested in the project, creating over 1,000 jobs. Construction, which began in 2023, is scheduled for completion in 2028.
