Maitland Flying Squad detained three suspects at petrol station with unregistered gun and 107 bullets

Every day in South Africa the family are being left devastating and heart broken due to criminals.

Now the South African Police Service are working hand to hand with members of community to eliminate crime activities.

Recently the Presidency said government will recruit soldiers to deal with Crime activities as the country experience the ever growing pressure of thugs/thieves.

Yesterday at Evening the flying squad members have managed to take down three criminals who were using silver VW Jetta at fealing station at Hanover Park.

Maitland Flying Squad members responded to reports of a shooting in Hanover Park on Monday, 16 February 2026, at about 20:00. While gathering information, they obtained a description of a vehicle linked to the shooting, and they hastily followed up.

At around 22:00, the members spotted the silver VW Jetta at a garage[A Petrol fealing station] in Lentegeur.

They tactically approached the vehicle that had three male occupants inside and conducted a thorough search.

Three firearms were found during the search, two of which had no serial numbers. The members also recovered 107 rounds of ammunition.

The suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, and possession of prohibited firearms, and ammunition.

Once charged, the three suspects aged between 18 and 31 will make their first court appearance in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s Court.
