Tshwane Police have arrested 257 criminals during #OperationShanela

According SAPS statement: South African Police Service (SAPS) in Tshwane, in continued collaboration with various law enforcement partners, successfully executed another well-coordinated crime prevention operation under the banner of #OperationShanela in Rietgat and Soshanguve on Saturday, 20 September 2025.

Operation Shanela remains a vital initiative of the South African Police Service, supported by multidisciplinary role-players in the Tshwane District.

It demonstrates the District’s commitment to strategic planning, precise execution, and a zero-tolerance approach to criminal activities across the capital city.

The latest operation was carefully planned under the leadership of the District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major-General Samuel Thine, and supported by several SAPS units, the Department of Home Affairs, the Tshwane Metro Police Department, Gauteng Traffic Police, the Department of Community Safety, and Community Policing Forums.

During the first phase of the operation, detectives effected 257 arrests for various criminal offences, including 79 for gender-based violence-related crimes, 5 for murder, 7 for attempted murder, 5 for armed robbery, and 13 for rape.

In the second phase, carried out by uniformed members, 48 undocumented foreign nationals were detained and handed over to immigration authorities.
