According to SAPS statement: On 14 October 2025, the Joe Gqabi District Commissioner, Major General Lindelwa Vellem together with her senior officers, accompanied by the Sterkspruit Station Commander Col Spambo and other government departments, visited the bereaved family of a GBVF victim.
The visit emanated after the devastating murder of a 67-year-old mother by her own son who beat her to death after accusing her of witchcraft.
The 30-year-old suspect was later arrested. A community engagement was ahead ahead of the visit.
Major General Lindelwa Vellem condemned the senseless murders of women and children and also elaborated on previous tragic incidents of GBVF where perpetrators were arrested and convicted.
She also addressed the priority crimes and encouraged the community to join the CPF structure as the SAPS and communities can work together to create a culture of support, awareness, and action to prevent crime.
After the engagement, the District Commissioner and her SAPS personnel, together with all other role-players, went to visit the bereaved family to offer condolences.
The family of the deceased were very appreciative of the warm visit in this difficult time.
