Johannesburg fly Squad busted 5 male suspects from 16-19 January

From Friday, 16 January 2026, to Monday, 19 January 2026, Johannesburg Flying Squad members arrested five suspects and recovered three vehicles.

On Friday, 16 January 2026, at around 14:00, members were busy patrolling when a lookout was issued for a bronze Kia Rio involved in a housebreaking incident in Centurion.

The vehicle was spotted in Waterfall, Midrand, with one occupant and was cornered by the members.

The vehicle[suspicious car was stopped and searched] was searched, and a plasma TV and housebreaking implements were recovered.

The suspect was placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of suspected stolen property, and possession of housebreaking implements, and was detained at Midrand SAPS. The vehicle was booked at the pound for safekeeping and further investigation.

In further policing, on Saturday, 17 January 2026, at around 13:20, members were busy patrolling when a complaint of cable theft in progress was received.

The members proceeded to the address in Waterfall, Midrand, and upon arrival arrested two suspects for tampering with essential infrastructure, malicious damage to property, and contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002. Both suspects were detained, and one grinder and a battery were booked at Midrand SAPS for further investigation.

On Sunday, 18 January 2026, at around 04:30, members were busy patrolling when information regarding suspected stolen property was received.

Members proceeded to an address in Observatory next to Yeoville, and upon arrival, two males were found at the address. Members requested permission to search the property.

During the search, members recovered 23 plasma TVs, 21 laptops, 27 monitors, and three solar batteries.

The suspects could not provide proof of ownership and were subsequently placed under arrest for possession of suspected stolen property.

A white VW Polo and a white Opel Astra used in the commission of crime were booked at the pound for safekeeping and further investigation.

Both suspects were detained at Yeoville SAPS.The suspects’ ages range between 22 and 38 years. They will be appearing in different Magistrates’ Courts soon.
