Department of Education set to merge three sectors which are industry, academia, and government at University of Walter Sisulu

University of Walter Sisulu has officially launched the Walter Sisulu–CIDB Centre of Excellence in Sustainable Construction at its East London Campus, in partnership with the Construction Industry Development Board.

The Centre of Excellence is poised to become a hub for innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable construction practices.

It aims to address critical skills shortages in the built environment sector by fostering stronger collaboration between industry, academia, and government.

Through this initiative, the university and its partners seek to equip students and professionals with future-ready skills aligned to the evolving demands of the construction industry, particularly in the context of sustainability and technological advancement.

The launch event was attended by the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela; the Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Sihle Zikalala; and the Eastern Cape MEC for Public Works, Siphokazi Lusithi.

Their presence underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing infrastructure development, skills training, and sustainable economic growth in South Africa.
