Department of Social Development held meeting with parents of children from Bilanyoni after crisis of their children’s safety

Parents from Bilanyoni, near eDumbe, took an active and leading role in today’s Child Protection 365 Programme held at Muziwesizwe High School.

The session, led by the Department of Social Development in collaboration with national, provincial and local stakeholders, placed strong emphasis on the critical role of parents and caregivers in safeguarding children.

During the engagement, parents and caregivers participated meaningfully in discussions, highlighting that child abuse often occurs within familiar spaces such as homes, streets, schools and places of worship.

This reinforced the urgent need for communities to take collective responsibility in protecting children.

The session forms part of the build-up to the national launch of Child Protection Month, as the Department of Social Development and its partners intensify awareness and prevention efforts.

Central to this approach is empowering parents, caregivers and communities to become the first line of defence in identifying, preventing and responding to all forms of child abuse.
