The Capricorn District Municipality is urging residents, businesses, and government account holders to take advantage of its Municipal Debt Relief/Incentive Programme to settle outstanding municipal debt.
The scheme is designed to help ease financial burdens, accelerate revenue collection, and clear historic or uncollectable accounts.
Municipal debt relief and incentive programmes are critical because they prevent total financial collapse for both struggling families and local governments.
They act as a financial reset button that transforms uncollectable debt into active municipal revenue.

Avoids Disconnection: Stops the municipality from cutting off essential water and electricity supplies.
Reduces Financial Stress: Wipes out historical debt and accumulated interest that families cannot afford to pay.
Restores Credit Standing: Clears negative municipal credit records so people can secure loans or business financing.
Encourages Legal Compliance: Offers a safe, penalty-free window to report and fix illegal utility connections.
Note: Consumers who do not adhere to the agreed-upon structured payment plans risk having the debt amnesty reversed, and the municipality may proceed with standard credit control and debt collection procedures.
