The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Drugs and Firearms Unit, working together with Provincial Illicit and Counterfeit Unit members, arrested a 29-year-old foreign national from a West African country for possession of and dealing in drugs during an operation in Richards Bay on Tuesday, 20 January 2026.
Police received intelligence regarding a man dealing in drugs and proceeded to a block of flats in Richards Bay.
Upon seeing the police, the suspect allegedly threw a packet of drugs through a window(tried to hide the evidence).
The suspect was found inside the premises, and during the search police recovered 285 grams of CAT, 57 ecstasy tablets, 61 grams of crystal meth, one rock of cocaine, and five packets of CAT.
The recovered drugs are estimated to have a street value of almost R80 000. An undisclosed amount of cash, believed to be the proceeds of crime, was also found in the suspect’s possession.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Empangeni Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 21 January 2026.
