Benefits for Ordinary South AfricansRights for Gig and Platform Workers:
Many South Africans work as e-hailing drivers, food couriers, or freelance domestic workers. The conference is establishing global “standard-setting” frameworks to give these platform workers legal employee status, minimum wage guarantees, and regular benefits.
Stronger Protections Against Workplace Harassment: The South African Delegation is actively pushing for stricter enforcement mechanisms against workplace violence and the harassment of women, paving the way for safer local work environments.
Bridging the Gender Pay Gap: The discussions on a transformative agenda for gender equality aim to enforce equal pay for equal work and dismantle career barriers for women across South African industries.
Defending Employment Equity: The South African government explicitly used this global platform to defend national employment equity policies, ensuring continued support for workplace transformation to correct historical racial, gender, and disability inequalities.
