Accoording to Department: In a decisive move to uphold road safety, the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Mme Violet Mathye, together with Head of Department Mr . Stephen Matjena, carried out an on‑site inspection of an overloaded inter‑provincial bus detained at the Polokwane weighbridge.
The vehicle was stop on the route from Gauteng to Malawi, had been stopped on the N1 bypass for breaching load‑limit regulations.
During the visit, MEC Mathye praised the diligence of traffic officers and urged them to maintain their efforts to reduce accidents across the province.
She emphasized that the inspection underscored the province’s unwavering commitment to enforcing road‑safety measures and fostering a culture of compliance among all transport operators.
In a stern warning directed at Malayisha operators and all cross‑border bus operators, MEC Mathye declared that any further disregard for load‑management rules or road‑worthiness standards would attract the maximum penalties, including hefty fines and possible suspension of operating licences.
The Department of Transport and Community Safety reiterated its resolve to protect all road users through rigorous enforcement and continuous public awareness.
