Today, Friday 15 May 2026, Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba and MEC for Transport and Community Safety Ms Violet Mathye have arrived at Jane Furse Hospital to visit learners injured in the tragic scholar transport accident in Sekhukhune District.
On Wednesday, 13 May 2026, a Toyota Quantum transporting learners from Mannyetha Primary School lost control after hitting a rock on road D4246 between Ga-Nkoana and Apel Cross.
The vehicle caught fire, claiming the lives of two Grade R learners and leaving five others injured.
MEC Mathye has expressed deep sadness and conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and the school community. The driver has been arrested, and investigations are ongoing.
The Premier has requested a full report on the incident and assured that government will continue to support the affected families and learners.
